For a long time I've noticed a growing dissatisfaction in my life. I've grown complacent in a lot of areas that have been dragging me down into a feeling of discontent. This morning I woke up with the feeling that I'm speeding rapidly towards a lifetime of mediocrity. That I'm a bum. That I need to improve upon just about every aspect of my life. Obviously trying to overhaul everything at once becomes a little overwhelming and soon focus wanes and you're stuck mired in the same place that you were before. So we're going to break down the long term goal of completely renovating my current lifestyle for now into diet and fitness. My diet really isn't that bad and I'm in better shape than the average 27 year old, but I don't want to be comparing myself to "average." I don't want some guy on the BBC in 80 years summing up my life with "He was a jolly bloke, if not a bit ordinary."
Ok so I've settled on diet and fitness as my first and number one goal but I guess you could compact it into 'better health.' I have no idea where I'm going at this point in life, but I figure wherever it is will be better with 6 pack abs and lower cholesterol. So with that being said, here are some first steps I'll be taking today:
- Cutting out all soft drinks/sodas (or pop if you're a weirdo.) Easier said than done when you live in the Coca Cola capital of the world.
- Drastic reduction in refined carbs. Nothing will send you towards heart disease and diabetes town faster than sugary deliciousness. Peace out, M&Ms.
- More veggies. I'm sure 99% of people list this and never do it, so lets see if I can incorporate a few more into the diet successfully.
Gotta learn to crawl before you can walk. Pretty soon we'll be running.
